Cheryl Unruh is the Secretary of the Catholic Women’s Leadership Foundation. She has been a director on the Board since July 2019.
Cheryl has been a lawyer since 1990. Growing up in Cape Breton, NS, she attended St. Francis Xavier University and received an Honours B.A. with a major in sociology and concentration in theology. Following that, she attended law school at the University of Alberta, graduating with an LL.B. in 1989. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1990 and initially practiced in Calgary. After moving to Vancouver to join her husband, also a lawyer, she was called to the British Columbia Bar. Over the course of her career she has been involved with criminal, administrative, contract, commercial, employment and insurance matters. For approximately 17 years she was employed as Media Director and In-House Counsel for an international diamond trading and jewelry manufacturing organization, during the most prolific years of their expansion. Following the birth of her two children, she began part-time work with a firm practicing primarily insurance law, allowing her to spend more time with her children.
The Catholic faith is important to Cheryl and her family, and she has been involved in parish life in one way or another for most of her life. Since moving to Langley in 2008, she has volunteered in her parish’s religious education programs such as PREP and Liturgy of the Word for Children, and she has been the parish RCIA coordinator for several years. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring different countries and cultures with her family.
